Blackburn Airstik 3 Pump
Customer Reviews
The first time I went to fill a tube with this pump, it led to a rupture near the valve stem. A friend pointed out that because the nozzle connects directly to the valve (that is, it doesn't have a hose that connects), it creates a constant wiggling and rubbing of the valve stem with each pump. The pump head needs to be held well in place with one hand while pumping with the other which can be cumbersome, especially for me as a woman with less strength. Another downside is that it only comes with one size of mounting screws, and the mount is meant to sandwich with an existing water bottle holder--but the screws just weren't long enough. I had to go to a bike shop and scavenge some screws that 1/8" longer; just something to keep in mind if you plan to take advantage of this type of mount.
Over the past dozen years I have had one of these pumps (or the previous version) on all of my bikes; road bike, TT bike, mtn bike, tandem road bike, and my commuter bike. After about a decade one of the pumps got to where it would no longer pump a road tire up to 120 psi, but I probably could've fixed the seal on the pump or had prevented the eventual failure with little maintenance. I figured I had gotten my money's worth and relegated it to soccer ball pumping duty. These pumps are small, lightweight, and very durable. Some of Topeak's items cost a touch more, but I have never regretted purchasing any of their proucts.
