I've had this bike for a year and still love it- no problems at all. Haven't even had to replace the tires. When I took it in to the bike shop to get my brakes checked out they said it was a great bike for the money, and they asked me for the Retrospec website so they can try to carry them in the store! Haha- guess Retrospec owes me a commish?! But seriously - all the Retrospec fixies I've seen have had amazing style and they hold up really well.
I rarely do reviews on products but I just could not resist for this one.
Let me start off by saying I've been road cycling for about four years now and own a few italian made columbus steel bikes and a $6k Wilier carbon road bike.
I was impressed right away with how well the bike was packed in the box. Assembly should be fine even for someone not familiar with bikes.
The cranks are already assembled to the bottom bracket so no need to have a bike shop put it together for you. Comes with "Wellgo" pedals with removable foot cages. I would suggest using a bike pedal wrench that's about $10 at your local bike shop instead of a crescent wrench when you install the pedals so you don't accidentally scratch the crank arm. Either one will work though. The 41mm Deep V wheels are great looking. Solid build quality for the price. There is a single sprocket on each side of the rear wheel so before installing the rear wheel make sure you decide if you want ride the freewheel sprocket or the fixed gear sprocket. The fixed gear is super smooth ride if your legs are up for it. I switched it over to the freewheel side for an easier ride and really love it!
For the price and looks this is the perfect bike. The black looks good even for an older 38 year old guy like myself. I'm about 6'-2" tall and ordered the (xlarge) which is equivalent to about a 60cm size bike. The fit is perfect All in all I was definitely impressed with my Retrospec Fixie and would recommend it to anyone.
